Felanitx is one of the largest municipalities of the island and is located in the east of Mallorca. Here can be found many very different landscapes such as flatlands, shorelines, and mountains. In fact, the town of Felantix is surrounded by seven hills making it similar to Rome. Felanitx has been an important cultural center for this part of the island, conserving a rich and interesting historical and artistic heritage.

Sindicat

El temps no afecta als pobles i a les seves gents per igual, tampoc al patrimoni arquitectònic, que pateix en les seves pedres l’abandonament burocràtic i el buit d’explotació. A Felanitx, a prop de la nova Ronda Nord, s’erigeix, tan impassible com degradat, el que en un temps fou el més grans dels cellers de vi mallorquins. Es Sindicat o la Bodega Cooperativa fou edificat entre 1920 i 1922, època de nova efervescència vinícola, seguint els plànols modernistes de l’arquitecte Guillem Forteza. Fabricà i vengué un producte que fins a 1923 només es comercialitzava al municipi. Es Sindicat fou l’obra principal d’una societat cooperativa fundada a 1919 por Bartomeu Vaquer Veny (llavors president de la Cámara Agrícola), Miquel Caldentey Tallades (president de la Caja Rural de Felanitx) i l’enginyer agrònom Ernest Mestres Artigas i que arribà a tenir més de 500 socis i més d’un miler de productors dependents.

Però, els anys passaren i paral·lelament al nou naixement de les denominacions d’origen al llarg de l’illa. El Celler Cooperatiu començava a mostrar símptomes evidents de declivi. La reducció de la plantilla i un deute de més de 130 milions de pessetes finalitzaren el somni industrial del municipi. Des de finals de la dècada de 1990 resta tapiat, oblidat i víctima d’accions vandàliques. En 2001 el Consell de Mallorca el declarà Be d’Interès Cultural (BIC), màxima categoria de protecció que pot tenir un be patrimonial. Però això no ha evitat que continuï tancat i degradant-se. Tornarem a tenir un Sindicat viu per que el gaudeixin tots els ciutadans?

The Sanctuary of San Salvador

The Sanctuary of San Salvador, also known as “The sanctuary of the Mother of God of San Salvador,” is at the peak of the mountain. The present church was built in the early eighteenth century over the remains of a fourteenth century church which was built during Black Death that killed half the population in 1384. Inside is saved a beautiful image of the Virgin and a magnificent Gothic altar. A stone Cross was built at the top of the mountain in the middle of the twentieth century, replacing earlier iron and copper versions.
